Christmas Special?

What do you reckon is going to happen?

Your thoughts below, please!
Deepsplash

X-Mas Special

I heard that the Cybermen were invading in the X-Mas special, though that might just be hearsay
Zhord

I've been told that the Cybermen return in Series 2.... or does the Christmas Special count as Series 2 or a link inbetween series?
Der Martin

I think the xmas special will centre around the relationship with Rose and the newly regenerated doctor. There are a few rumors that CE will somehow also play a part in it. I don´t really see how unless he has left himself a few holographic messages to deal with a dodgy regeneration. Its hard to see how a xmas special can be special without some big well known foe in it as well as well as mortal danger for the earth . After all theres no proof whatsoever that xmas is celebrated on other planets is there?
If I had to put money on it then I would go with the Cybermen or a crisis on Gallifrey. If we assume that the new viewers must also be tied over then it is logical to assume that the slytheen could be involved.

formulas: new Doctor - Old foe -- Winner
old doctor/new doctor Old foe --- Loser
New doctor new foe ----- hmmm a bit dodgy specially at xmas

might be interesting to have a Dotor who´s xmas Carol with the Doctors of Past, present and future yeah thats a good one, you reading Russel?
Der Martin

Could also be quite jolly with a happy ending type the doctor dances. St. nicholas lives, cant see the doctor rescueing santa claus though.
Zhord

Maybe is has something to do with when the Doctor says he gives Rose a bike for Christmas? Just a thought?
kat

christmas special

has it been confirmed how many/how long the christmas special(s) will be? also anyone know of any confirmed cast members?

there are lots of ideas you all came up with on plasticbag that weren't explored/even touched on at the end of this series, some ideas being:

the whole adam being a "new davros", 2nd (or is it 3rd now) generation of daleks

big Face of Boe evil scheme thing

going back to the time war, what actually did happen??

Capn Jack's missing two years

to be honest there's probably going to be as much speculation about this as there was about the last episode, so i'm just throwing some ideas into the mixing pot, and they're probably not that hot, never mind, that half the fun ain't it Very Happy
Zhord

I'm certaint that some of the theories above will be answered within the next two series.

And as for the Christmas Specials, it HAS been comfirmed that there will be one this year and one next year.
Der Martin

It has also been confirmed by Julie gardener that the xmas special will be 60 minutes long.
captainjackrules

Pass the gravy, Mickey

Would'nt it be funny if they went back to 2005 and had christmas with Mickey and Jackie? Then aleins could invade. Can just imagine Mickey's reation to new doctor. "You ain't big ears, surely!"
kat

xmas 2005 at the tyler residence

lol i can just see it now!!!

but wouldn't that be like the slitheens, a bit too repetitive from series 1 for my liking

the master's already been done in film form, so it probably won't be him...
kat

just read this on plastic bag:

"You want a prequel? What about a two hour Time War special with Paul McGann (the best Doctor we never had), older different costume to the TV movie, let him play it how he wants, but give us Daleks and Time Lords, Eric Robert's Master joining forces with the Time Lords to revenge himself on the Daleks for Exterminating him, then betrays them at the last minute causing the two sides to be destroyed accidentally killing him at the last moment. One McGann survives, but, exhausted falls to the floor, doesn't think he will regenerate with his homeword and the Eye of Harmony destroyed, so when he does turn into Ecclestone, he sits up, and says... "Fantastic!"."

Thanks Nigel Robinson

would this work? can the doctor remember things from his previous regenerations? (oh yes, barcelona, answered my own question!!)
Zhord

That sounds good. I too think McGann was a good doctor and a shame that we didnt get to see him that much. The should do a prequel showing McGann regenerating into CE.
kat

and there would have to be exessive deviousness on the part of the master, cos CE is really convinced it was all his fault...

i'm really liking this idea
Zhord

I can't really see any prequels at the mo as Doctor Who is still aimed at a new audience, the series has kind of started again from CE, but still counting the previous Doctors, but just not including them much in the new series.
kat

but the time war is something that has only been talked about during this series, so surely this is something that new fans would be interested in?
Zhord

The Time War would probably be one of the few things mentioned from the old series as it gave the series a lift off from the previous.
kat

so what do we know about the time war already?

(sorry, should be patient and wait for entires in Classic Who shouldn't i)

Wink
sciscens

The Christmas special(s) might be used to introduce the new Who-fans to some of the Doctor's history, so that characters and events from the classic series can become part of the following ones more easily.
captainjackrules

xmas extermination

Found this on, http://entertainment.msn.co.uk/tv/doctorwhothefinalepisode/ :
Well it's an hour-long episode which is something we've never done before. It will be a great, Christmas adventure that's really big in scale. It will be Christmassy, there's nothing I like more than a Christmas Special set at Christmas! There's a big story in it for Rose as well as a massive threat to the Earth going on beneath the surface so Christmas as usual!
Razz
Lord Cardigan

What do we already know about the Christmas Special.

There were rumours that CE would be in the Christmas Special. Probably just so we didn't know about the regeneration in episode 13, but does anyone remember CE saying to Rose that he was Father Christmas and hinting that he bought her a Red Bicycle when she was 12?

They could set the story in '93 and, even if they don't meet him, CE could be seen dropping off the present to the young Rose's house.

Alternatively this could be used to introduce the viewers to a Two Doctor story, or more (please God no! - unless Tom Baker plays Santa)!

Plot-wise, why not have some Time-Agents working for the Daleks trying to wipe Rose out before she defeats them! This is the thing about the Time War and the idea of total annihilation for all concerned, if you war in time you wipe out your enemy in the past as well as the future, presumably they just keep going back to before their enemy beat them like a game of temporal leap-frog!

Anyway, I don't care what they do, so long as it's at least half as good as anything in series one, and I can't guess what it's going to be. That would spoil the surprise, wouldn't it. And Christmas is all about surprises.

PS: For Classic series continuity how about the Doctor tracking down the Meddling Monk as the only other surviving Time Lord, being stuck on Earth, only to find he's adopted the guise of St. Nicholas for personal gain - something the Doctor feels he needs to put right.
Deako

Lord Cardigan. Was that post serious or a joke? I can imagine it being both.

"Oh, I wish it could be Christmas everyday-ay-ay!"...... *Continues horribly*
Lord Cardigan

You cannot be serious!

Well... most of it was just wild speculation, but CE did ACTUALLY suggest that he was Santa (red bicycle quote - check it out) and I'm starting to wonder whether that was a massive, obvious clue about the Christmas Special that was just so massive and obvious that none of us noticed it.

Maybe I'm spending too much time on these message boards. Best have a little lie down.
Zhord

*Ahem* I think you will find that I noticed it Laughing
Lord Cardigan

Whoops

Sorry 'bout that. Have you got a thread going on it, I haven't seen any mention anywhere and figured this was the very forum to check it out.

BTW: Hats off to you and the other guys for setting this up. It's like an old folks home for regulars of Tom Coates' Bad Wolf site (and I mean that in a good way, old folks are the best folks, don't they say?).

What do you say then, is it a clue, or just a red herring (trimmed with white fur and sporting a beard)?
Lord Cardigan

Whoops apocalypse

V.V. Sorry. Just been back and read your post.

Oh this is embarrassing, I look like the message board amateur I truly am.

Still keen to know how important you think it is though.
Zhord

I don't mind setting up the forum. I should take my hat off to everyone who have managed to pay a vist to this site and posted something as a forum isn't a forum without other people.

I dunno how they are going to portray how CE gives Rose the bike. Maybe they will do a "Christmas Carol" theme by seeing the past, present and future of a Christmas.

Maybe it could be about Mickey and Jackie at Christmas in the future without Rose as she has gone off with the Doctor?

Or maybe CE does return as a "shadow of Christmas Past" to give Rose the bike. We all know that two Doctors can be in the same time zone, as in the "Father's Day" episode.
Lord Cardigan

Really?

Part of me baulks at the pastiche of "Christmas Carol", but I dunno. The more I think about it the better it seems. Not like RTD to go for a pastiche, but it is Christmas.

They could always get the idea to to do it after a Christmas drink with Charles Dickens, he's a mate of theirs after all. How the Doctor explains his new face would be interesting.
Zhord

Yeah, I mentioned it in a previous post about wondering what the reactions would be of the people mentioned below after seeing the new Doc:

Cptn Jack Harkness
Jackie Tyler
Micky
K9
Sarah Jane Smith

Looks like the Doc has got a lot of explaining to do Laughing
Lord Cardigan

K9 - oh nien!!

I don't think we need worry about what K9 thinks of anything. They'd be mad to have him in it. He was bloody awful the first time.

She'll have sold him for scrap if she's any sense.

Seriously though, if the did see SJS mention would have to be made of the old dog. They don't flaunt the established history - except in the perfectly understandable cases where time has been altered - but the way they're pitching this new series I suspect that he'll have come to some harm and, if they need his opinion or help, they'll end up pluging what's left of his head into something else to get him going again. Could end up as part of the Tardis console. You know, next to the bike pump and under the Helmic Regulator.
sciscens

In which episode does the Doctor tell he's given Rose that bicycle?
captainjackrules

Doctor Who

It's the doctor dances! "Look, at you beaming like your father christmas",
"Who said i'm not! Red bycicle when you were twelve!"
lol Very Happy
Sutekh The Destroyer

i dont thin much can happen in the 1 hr xmas special.
because they have to first do all the you cant be the doctor stuff, maybe go to barcelona and then get back in time for christmas dinner with the family.
3 things RTD says about the XMAS special;

RTD "But at the same time the Christmas special has a brand new monster to fight, and that's gonna be good!"

RTD "You'll hear the word in the Christmas special though"

RTD "I remember when I was young it's very strange when a new Doctor comes along, and that's exactly how Rose feels. Her mum gets involved again, but beyond that I can't give anything else away. It's as Christmassy as can be. It's got reindeer, it's got sleigh bells, it's got the works."

i dont think there can be a huge battle with this new enemy, maybe just a little something that can tie over to the start of season 2. or maybe not!
Lord Cardigan

Predicting RTD

I suspect that RTD, aware of just how successful this whole Bad Wolf thing has been (we're still wobbling on about it for a start), is just riding the wave and getting us to talk about it, watch the episodes again, buy the DVD's to see if we can hear it clearer. With any luck we'll still be talking about it up to Christmas without RTD and the BBC playing a single trailer! He's a sly one that Russell. I bet there isn't even another Bad Wolf-type word at all.

And as for the reindeer and snow. I suspect that I know enough about RTD's take on things to deduce that this will be in a shopping centre Grotto display while our heros are being chased by whatever-the-hell-the-new-baddie-is-called. It's Earth and Roses Mum's in it, so what else could it be?

While I'm on, I notice no one else has heard the rumours about casting for the Master, but I came across this on the "60 SECONDS EXTRA!" site. Read it and consider his first appearance might be in disguise as Santa in the Shopping Centre Grotto.

60 SECONDS EXTRA!: Would you do another reunion?
?Tom Baker: I might jib at that but I want to suggest the BBC makes me The Master. The new viewers wouldn't be bothered as they wouldn't recognise me - but for older people, there would be a certain frisson. The BBC wouldn't like it because it is a bit witty. But I am used to rejection.

It's a whole new thread, but, now the other Doctors are too fat and old to play themselves in another reunion episode, wouldn't it be great to have the Master steal the Doctors old bodies and let each of the surviving Doctors have a bash at being a bad guy for a change. The Baker's would be great, big classic Villains, McCoy would be quite spitefully nasty, not sure about Davison and McGann, but they're still able to pass themselves off as their former selves I s'pose.

Anyway, gone off topic again. Merry Christmas
Sutekh The Destroyer

im not sure if this is credible inifo cominig from 60 seconds extra, but i do love the idea. wouldn't that be FANTASTIC the master coming back as previous dr's. surely this would be right up RTD's street he must realize how huge that could be. Not only could you probably get 6 dr's, you could also have CE come back and who knows maybe he could stay on............. 9th Dr 13 episodes????? give us more god damn you!!!!!
Deako

Commence countdown...
3...

1...

The 'Christmas Special' speculation has begun... May bickering come to all!

Has anyone thought about SJS and K-9 making an appearance in the 'Christmas Special'?
I doubt it, because there might be too much other stuff going on, but you never know...
Zhord

Someone could return for a "Merry Christmas" Twisted Evil
Berethor

Xmas Special

hi all i think the slitheen are gonna steal santas body and chuck bombs down all chimneys blowing everything up then they can blow the planet up and sell it for rocket fuel Mr. Green
Sutekh The Destroyer

now thats a classic bad wolf scenario!!! Twisted Evil

Nice Sletheen idea! Twisted Evil

Paul Mcgann

Hi,

Unfortunatelt I had heard that they could not use Paul Mcgann's Doctor due to the American company owning half of the rights, so would cost too much money.

The only way around it is by releasing a book about the time war with the 8th Doctor; either this or by getting a stand in Doctor for the 8th, which would be a shame.

At the end of the day, this has to be seen as being worth paying money out for the use of this Doctor.

As for the Christmas Special, shame it's not a two parter. One on Christmas Eve, one on Christmas Day. Now ITV would be upset....

A nice one and half hour programme....... now that's what I would call SPECIAL!
Deako

Well adman, I can't find anything to disagree with there... In fact, I can find a lot to agree with!
Berethor

slitheen idea

Me and my friend came up with the slitheen idea but i dont think it will be as it wouldnt really be an invasion
Deako

I suppose not.... Oh, well Wink
Berethor

Slitheen idea

It could be the second xmas special!
Sutekh The Destroyer

do you think they will go to barcelona or will the whole x-mas special take place on earth? do you think they would have the cybermen come back for christmas. when the dr says the cybermans head on display in Dalekl. he seems quite sad to see them like that, i think he is going to smile when he sees them!
Deako

I don't think other planets celebrate Christmas Sad
Zhord

Unless there is a planet called "Christmas."
Berethor

the planet called christmas would make sense if they invaded it
Deako

The Doctor wouldn't want to go to the planet 'Christams'. There are too many fat men in red and midgets in green. Also, you can't drive anywhere without running over lots of reindeer! One other bad thing... All the toy factories cause pollution... Whenever you go to a 'Christams Village', you end up having to look like the 'Empty Child' because of the bad air! Very Happy
Sutekh The Destroyer

i hope they do the Rose's bike story.
Deako

Yes, that would be good! Laughing
sciscens

Forget Slitheen appearing. Every single member of the evil Slitheen family is dead. Except for Blon (Margaret) Who turned into an egg (or did she lay it just before she was desintegrated by the heart of the T.A.R.D.I.S.?). But still that egg is going to be nurtured by a decent non-evil raxicalcofalpatorian family, so don't count on more evil Raxicalcofalpatorians.

I somehow think they won't ever be brought back at all.

Re: Rose's Bike

I agree with the previous entries who require a xmas special involving the bicycle. This would allow CE to return for the story/ or as flashback. DT would still be in it, telling the tale.

This would also reveal more about Rose and why the Doctor would do this. It does seem strange, considering he is 'supposed' to have just met her, unless he has been following her through time for some special reason...

Who is Rose really?

RTD realy does make us think! Gives me ideas for my own stories (graphic novels)

Roll on Christmas!

"I still think it should be a 2 parter.... 1 and a 1/2 special." Razz
Zhord

That is one of the things RTD as achieved really well. We don't know who the Doctor is and also, Rose is shrouded with mystery too.
Sutekh The Destroyer

exactly who is rose, when the doctor is talking to the god of the daleks, and jack about the delta wave killing everything on earth. Jack says something like "you sent her home, she's safe", why does he say this, and why is it important in the context of what they are talking about. i encourage people to go back and check out that conversation, i have always thought from that bit that perhaps both the doctor and jack know more about rose's future. and of course we know the doctor knows what she becomes, he can see it.

i bet the cybermen come for rose....
kat

it might be just fanciful speculation, but i'd quite like it if rose turned out to be part time-lord (lady)
Sutekh The Destroyer

yeah i hadn't thought about that, i guess that would work. somehow i think it will be more than that. maybe they get into a situation like in Logopolis where the whole universe is gonna be destroyed, but rose has an opotunity to interface with some other sort of either alien technology/ or astrological phenomanom. thusly saving the universe but sacraficing herself to another universe (or something?)
i don't know but im may start drafting a script, my other story isn't going so well.
sciscens

kat wrote:

How would you explain such a thing? Mutations can not let you turn into another species and Rose's parents are human.
kat

are they?

who are her grandparents?

she could turn out to be some decendant of sjs, which would make the doctor her great grandfather or something, or worse her actual father, jackie meets dt, gets pregnant, they take baby back to grow up as rose. classic lister situation, although, lister was his own father if i remember correctly...

or maybe jack's her father, we don;'t know his genetic background do we?
The Doctor

Who is Lister?
kat

dave lister of red dwarf, he's his own father, leaves himself under a pool table in a cardboard box labelled ouroboros
Sutekh The Destroyer

i get what you mean, good idea...

anyone here any new news on xmas special?
Deako

I think the Doctor getting Jackie pregnant is a terrible idea. BBOOOO!! Evil or Very Mad
kat

sorry, i still see him as casanova Rolling Eyes
Deako

If I was some sort of parliamentarian/evil sorcerer, I would illegalize/banish that idea...
Sutekh The Destroyer

silly people!!! with all your silly ideas!!! confusing our guests!!!
mind you it would be a shockiing story....
Deako

I suppose... But it's still a terrible idea, and that's that!
