episode 4 - The Girl in the Fireplace

thought i'd post this here to pre-empt the episode tonight...
From radiotimes website:

Quote:
Without wishing to stereotype anyone, I have to say that this is one for the ladies. Of course, it could just be me being soppy, but it's probably as close as we'll ever get to a Doctor Who romance. The Doc (David Tennant) stumbles into 18th-century France through the fireplace of a sweet little girl called Reinette. She quickly grows up to be the spirited and clever Madame de Pompadour, famous courtesan and mistress of King Louis XV. The fact that the grown-up Madame P is played by Tennant's real-life girlfriend, Sophia Myles, gives things an extra frisson. Anyway, she's plagued by clockwork monsters who want her brain for their spaceship and it's all very silly and I didn't understand any of it, but don't let minor details such as the plot bother you. Tennant is at his most larky and funny and, obviously drawing on his swashbuckling days as Casanova, has a terrific scene when he rides to his beloved's rescue. Oh, and if you're not a little puddle of weeping goo by the end, well, you don't have a heart.

During the episode i had an idea for an alternate ending: what if the doctor had hitched a ride with a previous (or future?) incarnation of himself and come back to the 51st century or would this be a really big paradox?

where are my smelling salts? i fear i have swooned!

i understand why they needed madame du pompodour's brain, but not why bits of the crew members sufficed??

i guess other organs have less things to be different than brains

I haven't read any of the above posts. I'll tell you what I think of the episode, once I get home and watch it on the VCR! Very Happy

Bloody Fantastic! Is it me or are the episdodes getting better as we go along?! And they are probably the scariest monsters yet, but they do look like clowns which i hate Razz

I watched the episode. Been a bit naughty this time and downloaded it! THe episode was excellent I thought. As the ship span around at the end to reveal its name I thought - At last a real episode of Doctor who with a final twist that only the audience grasp. Well pleased with it. It does appear to be getting better. I did mention a while ago that the best was yet to come. I have a feeling that the very best yet will be the Rise of the cybermen Story- I am debating over whether to watch the next episode and torture myself for a week for the "To be continued" bit to show up or to wait until I have both eps before watching.

Did anyone see if the word "Torchwood" appeared in the episode
? I didn't see it anywhere. I also thought the words spoken from Madame de Pompadou "It's not just the secret" were quite interresting.

Hear from you all soon Smile
