what about autons as minions of the master
|
Sutekh The Destroyer

it's kind of suspicious to me the auton episode, the fact that they turn up as rose and the doctor 1st meet, coupled with the fact that we know the master is the only person that knows where the nestine homeplanet is, coupled with the fact that they are actually pretty useless without the master, leads me to believe there will deffinately be more to come involving the autons....

Nice work there The Doctor. All that you say is entirely correct. If I may, I should just add a few notes. Let me see.....
Yes err umm. The Autons were the brainchild of one Robert Holmes who, at that point in his career, was the best Dr. who script writer to date. His work (I believe), could only be matched by one Terrance dicks who happened to be the Script editor at the time. Together they produced definately the best Doctor who stories ever written. Back then there were no Executive Producer posts at the BBC so these guys basically did some of the work that RTD does today.
The Autons appeared in two stories from the Jon Pertwee era:
a) Spearhead from Space (as The doctor kinly points out) and
b) Terror of the Autons.
Terror of the Autons was the first story of season eight, and was also the first story in which the Master appears.
More than one type of Auton exist:-
Type one is the general shop window dummy type Auton which is easily spotted as a fake human.
Type two however is a more convincing piece of living plastic which is very hard to distinguish from the human it has been copied from. Auton type 2 can change its shape, requires a lot more energy from the nestene consciousness and it is a lot easier to maintain if the original human is kept alive. The Nestene consciousness is not averse to using this kind of auton to replace important governmental figures in order to make its invasion go unnoticed.
Type one autons can come into existance in two different ways: 1) through production on a factory line or 2) through bringing to life and controlling existing plastic dummies.
All Autons are controlled through a radio signal sent from the nestene consciousness, if the signal can be neutralised, or blocked then the Autons themselves become useless immobile plastic once again. Plastic in human form is not the only plastic that the Nestene consciousness can control. The consciousness or Consciousnii (hehe, there are surely many of them somewhere in the universe) have also been known to control plastic daffodills, dolls, telphone cables, wheelie bins and octupus-like creatures which they themselves created and presumed were the best form possible when it came to invading planet Earth!
(The Nestene Membrane/consciousness)
The Plastic often lies dormant awaiting the radio signal from the consciousness. It is not exactly clear how but it appears that heat can somehow trigger a feedback loop between the plastic and the Nestene thus generating the radio signal and bringing the plastic back to life. Any old radiator or Bunsen burner will do.
The Autons are entirely immune to gunfire but can be killed by electric shock devices or anti-plastic. They can have a vaporiser or gun of any description built into their hand.
Robert Holmes wrote another Auton Story for the 6th Doctor which was supposed to feature the Rani and the Master once again. However it never made it past script form (first draught.)
On screen, the Autons had no less than three spin off videos, originally entitled Auton, Auton 2, and Auton 3.these were commisioned by a company called BBV (short for Bill and Ben videos) the company has the blessing of the BBC and has since made many other Doctor who-like video series, often starring the principle actors of the original series..
Make no mistake about it ........The Autons will be back.
