What I find intriguing about the new Doctor (I said "intriguing." I am the next Der Martin!) is that the 9th Doctor, due to the Time War, was very dark and mysterious and wanted to be alone a lot of the time. ie, "I don't do domestics."
But I liked the way the 10th Doctor hugged Jackie at the end of the Christmas Special. Due to him (9th Doc) dieing once again in the Time War of Earth, perhaps the Doctor feels that "the weight is off his shoulders" now the Time War is over and when he had to relive the events in the Time War (i.e Live as a Dalek or die as a Human. Destroy Humans/Time Lords to kill Daleks).
But also, I am guessing that in the Time War against the Time Lords and Daleks, the Doctor had to destroy his people to berid of the Daleks. In the Time War of Earth, he and Rose managed to kill the Daleks AND save the humans down below. So, perhaps the Doctor finally forgave himself and could finally live with himself now, as he wanted to die as a coward as he could not kill the humans using the Delta Wave, (which he must have did the opposite to his own people.)
So now the 10th Doctor finally DOES domestics, is more open to Rose and her family (he hugged Jackie - that takes a lot of guts! And also ate dinner with them, the 9th Doctor refused this). Because of this, the 10th Doctor can finally look at the universe in a new light.
What I also like about the 10th Doctor, is the fact he resembles Tom Baker's Doctor and Patrick Throughton's as the 10th Doctor appears "oblivious" to what is going on but he is really leading his enemy into a false sense of security, whereas the 9th Doctor would probably have used aggression.
