New for Series TwoIt has now been confirmed that K9 and Sarah Jane Smith will return for Series Two. Also, the Cybermen will be making a become too.
Rose Tyler (Billie Piper) will stay for all of Series Two and Captain Jack Harkness will be making a return half way through the series.
Has anything else been confirmed?

More alien locations, as opposed to the predominantly Earth based stories of this series...

The Marster's ReturnsHas anyone heard any more about James Marsters (Spike from Buffy) being approached by the BBC for Series 2?
Isn't there some speculation that he's being lined up to play The Master. Not sure if this is rumour based on the similarity of names.
Anyone heard?

Who is Sarah Jane Smith?
I am unfortunate enough to know who K9 is...
|
Zhord
|
K9 is the robotic dog that accompanied the Doctor (Tom Baker) for, I think, four years.
Sarah Jane Smith is one of the Doctor's 9Tom Baker) assistants. Her last episode she was in was in 1977, called "The Hand of Fear."
I have just bought (and watched) the video from Ebay!

Sarah Jane WhoSarah Jane Smith was only the best ever assitant (before our Billie, natch), with both of the best ever Doctors (3 and 4, natch).
Every time anyone starts banging on about the Doctor's assistants screaming all the time and that this one is going to be different, they forget that she was the first. Yeah she screamed, but I think you'll find that Billie does her fair bit when you look again. Given that Sarah Jane was in it in the 70's and 80's (or thereabouts) she gives a pretty gutsy performance - may seem a bit weedy now, but they were ahead of the game then.
If you never see anything else of her, try to get hold of the episode where the Doctor takes her home. Brief farewell, bit too brief for Sarah Jane, then , when the Tardis has dematerialised she realises that she doesn't recognise the street and isn't even sure that he's left her in the right town. It's brilliant. Caring sharing Christopher Eccelstone he ain't.

"The Hand of Fear" is the episode where the Doctor takes her back, as he gets a call from Gallifrey.
And, I so happen to own the book and the video of this episode. I read the book first, then seen the episode on UK Gold ages ago so I decided to buy it a couple of weeks ago.

Good then?Does it match up to my description. I haven't seen it since it was first broadcast (unless there were repeats), but that scene ranks among my all time favourites (along with "...but do I have the right?" - you know what I mean).

In the ending, when the Doc drops SJS off, she does mention, "This isn't my street... This isn't even Croydon."
I thought that she meant it, but it was suppose to be a joke as the Doc did often get places mixed up.
|
Lord Cardigan
|
SJSIf she is going to be in it again I hope it wasn't Croydon. After the initial "but your not the Doctor" shenanigans they always do, she could be the first person to slap the new Doctors face for leaving her in Birmingham, with no money, no idea where she was and 6 months before she left in the first place. Spending 6 months living rough hiding from her past self till it was safe to go home - she'd bit a little miffed with him.
Features editor of a quality Sunday, war correspondent for the BBC, Editor or a fashion mag - what would a ballsy reporter like SJS have made of herself by now do you think?

I'v just found an audio series of a spin-off of Sarah Jane Smith on the internet.
http://www.drwhoguide.com/sj_01.htm
Its a big read, but it explains what SJS was doing after the Doc left her.

!Way.
Can't be bothered to read that. I'm afraid I'm one of those Who fans who doesn't put much store by anything that wasn't on the telly (and even some stuff that was - post Baker, you know).
Having said that, Big Finish is the only source of adventure with McGann and they're great. Going off topic here, so I'll keep it brief, if you've not already heard it look out for The Time of The Daleks, where they much about with time travel. Can't say too much, it'll spoil it for you, but listen for what the Doctor does with the tin foil! It's a four parter and, given that it's on audio, they've, brilliantly kept the story to the same few locations you'd get in a TV four parter. You can just about see it.
Sorry about going on, but, man, it's good.

I'll have a look for it, thanks

Russell T Davies is quoted at CBBC Newsround about the 'scoop' for season two. "A Christmas special this year, another series of 13 episodes in 2006, followed by another Christmas special and then 13 more episodes in 2007, which is very exciting," Davies says. About villains: "Some great new stuff. Some famous old monsters called Cybermen will be coming back and they are as equally scary as the Daleks. They will marching onto your screens into 2006. Lots of new villains too and one or two favourite characters from this year as well. But at the same time the Christmas special has a brand new monster to fight, and that's gonna be good!" About new planets: "I'm the one who has stopped us going off earth because I think you see an awful lot of shows, expensive good ones like Enterprise and Angel, where they go to another planet or dimension and it looks rubbish, it looks like California in the sunshine with a funny rock. I think that when stuff like Revenge of the Sith is doing the most beautiful planets, no matter what you think of the film, the planets are utterly beautiful and that's on a cinema budget which is a trillion times more than a television show would have. I think it's the hardest thing to do and I'm very wary of looking like rubbish because I think the moment the programme looks rubbish people point at it and laugh in a bad way. I'm very happy if people have fun with it and have a good laugh with it. When you have a bad laugh you've lost the faith and you've lost the audience." About a story arc for the second season, like the "Bad Wolf" stuff: "Yes there is, and that word has already been heard on screen. And that's all I'm saying. You'll have to go back and trawl through 13 episodes to realise what I'm on about. You'll hear the word in the Christmas special though" About the Christmas Special: "It's going to be 60 minutes long. It's the first story of the new Doctor played by David Tennant. I remember when I was young it's very strange when a new Doctor comes along, and that's exactly how Rose feels. Her mum gets involved again, but beyond that I can't give anything else away. It's as Christmassy as can be. It's got reindeer, it's got sleigh bells, it's got the works." About Tennant and his native Scottish accent: "Well, every planet has a Scotland. You'll have to wait and see, there are big revelations on the way and I can't say any more than that." About reaction to the show: "The thing we're most happy about is that we've got a new young audience watching. Research before we started said children won't watch because their mums and dads liked it. That was terrifying because we wanted a young audience and I especially wanted girls watching because science-fiction is very often seen as a boy's thing, which is why we have so many strong female characters. And a lot of strong emotion in it, because I think that gets girls watching. I'm delighted that young audience has latched on to it."

i really love that religious twist with the daleks, they needed anoother catch phrase "Do Not Blasphem" "Exterminate"
|
Zhord
|
Considering I have not posted anything in this thread for a while, well, I might as well now.
One of the phrases was "Worship Him!"
Also, you could add, "I am the God of all Daleks"
|
kat
|
yeah, all these religious references were leading us to believe that the daleks had some kind of human-ness within them, leading to speculations about the dalek from DALEK and about adam re-inventing the dalek race and becoming a second davros, but i guess in the end it was cos they were using the contestants who lost to increase their numbers dramaticly
|
Sutekh The Destroyer
|
good point, i think also the God of the Dalek's maybe did some reprogramming of their DNA. lord knows he had enough "time". stuck falling trough time in a crippled ship, making daleks, inventing elivation technology.
that coupled with kat's gameshow contestant theory, makes for some nasty religous fanatic Daleks. Davros would be proud.
i really would like to see Adam return as a bad guy, that would be so cool. adam and harkness could team up and come after the doctor...... good times....

any more news on james marsters?
just look at that bone structure!
|
Der Martin
|
Er kat.. what news was there before?
On the dalek-human thing -... episode 13 "the parting of the ways" is not the first time that Daleks have been manufactured from genetically manipulated humans. In a Colin Baker story (Revelation of the Daleks) Davros had hidden himself away on a remote planet and had set up a intergalactic cemetary where humans both alive and dead were being experimented on in an effort to build a new race of Daleks and provide a source of protein (food) for the new race. Although the laboratory (and possibly the planet, can't remember) was eventually blown up by a knight of the first order of Oberon, it is entirely possible (what with time being infinite and everything) that one of these daleks survived and later became the "God of all daleks"
I never gave it much thought before but might as well contribute to the thread.
