Petition for Cptn Jack

Please vote in the poll above and post you name below so that way if we get enough people, RTD might consider a Jack spin-off.
Deako

Thanks for voting for the non-evil option, Zhord! Very Happy

Can you guess what I voted for!?! Very Happy
Zhord

No... I can't tell, sorry. Very Happy
Deako

Both of the 2 people voted for 'yes'.

I put down my occupation as 'Jack Fan'
--And my inerests as 'Catain Jack Harkness'! Laughing
Zhord

Yeah and your point being?

I can not see a pattern emerging here, can you?
Deako

My INTEREST is ''Catain Jack Harkness', and you don't think I would be INTERESTED in a spin-off!?!

I voted for 'yes'. You, my friend, are as thick as a thick brick! Laughing

LOL. You see, I am like the Doctor in many ways. I act stupid to lead people into a self-sense of security.

You honestly think I am being serious in the above posts? Look who is thick now... Very Happy Razz Twisted Evil
Zhord

What would you like to see in a possible spin-off?

I would like to see him with the Time Agents and that he actually turns out to be a Time Lord.
Deako

As long as he shoots Cybermen and other such beings, anything's ok with me! Laughing Very Happy
Zhord

Seeing as though he is a Time Agent, he has two years missing of his life, I think the new word is "Time" and the Time War had just begun again, do you think Jack could have been the one to help the Emperor Dalek escape.

I mean he could have been a bad guy, lost his memory, then became good.
Deako

...Maybe Crying or Very sad ... But i hop not. Crying or Very sad *Sniff*
Zhord

I found this on a site:

"Christmas specials have long been a staple of the seasonal TV schedules, especially on the BBC. There are the occasional one-off TV films for drama series, but not usually Christmas ones - Cracker and Spender are two that come to mind."

Could a spin-off be happening any time soon?
Zhord

I also found this! Sorry its a big read but for all you Jack fans, its worth it!

"Jack Harkness, also known as Captain Jack, is a fictional character played by John Barrowman in the long-running British science fiction television series Doctor Who. A time traveller and confidence trickster from the 51st century, he first appears in the episode The Empty Child and will remain at least for the rest of the current series as the third known companion of the Ninth Doctor. He is the first clearly bisexual companion.

The Doctor's companion Rose first met Jack during the London Blitz in 1941, where he was posing as an American volunteer in the Royal Air Force, claiming the rank of Captain. Rose and the Doctor had come to that time and place in pursuit of an alien cylinder that had crashed on Earth. Rose had accidentally hitched a ride on a barrage balloon and was about to fall to her death when Jack rescued her with his time ship's tractor beam. Jack's ship was capable of concealing itself by turning invisible, and included in its systems nanogenes which could treat wounds.

Flirting with Rose, who was also attracted to him, Jack explained that he was a former "Time Agent" who left the organisation after discovering that two years of his memory had been removed, and going in search of them. Mistaking Rose and the Doctor for Time Agents as well, he tried to pass off the cylinder as an abandoned alien warship. In reality, the cylinder was a hollow and empty medical vessel — or so he believed. However, it was filled with billions of nanogenes, which began transforming everything they came into contact with (The Empty Child).

Jack assisted Rose and the Doctor in deactivating the nanogenes, but lost his own ship when he transported a German bomb on board to save the others from being killed by it. The TARDIS managed to rescue him before the bomb blew up his vessel, and he was taken on board as the newest member of the crew (The Doctor Dances).

While Jack flirted with Rose, it became clear that he was bisexual, an orientation which the Doctor pointed out was more common by the 51st century, when mankind had to deal with mulitple alien species and thus sexuality had to be more flexible. In Boom Town he openly flirts with the Doctor in front of Mickey, and the Doctor plays along.

Jack will also feature in the upcoming BBC Books spin-off novels The Deviant Strain by Justin Richards and Only Human by Gareth Roberts. His further adventures with the Doctor are still being revealed."
Zhord

Are you gonna read the spin-off books when they come out?

I know I am.
Sutekh The Destroyer

jack's spin off should be based on jack con-ing people and flirting, with men, women, and maybe k-9.....
sciscens

I voted against it because my general opinion is that spin-offs almost always suck and turn out to disapoint people.

It's not just about the characters. Their character is partly formed by their surroundings and so is their popularity. Jack Harkness is great in the series of Doctor Who, but I cou;dn't possibly think of a concept of a series in which Jack is the main star and the whole Whoniverse is kind of left behind. Or his series should have to become some sort of Doctor Who clone.

Most characters sustain in one story, but can not be taken out to others. You will expect certain things which the writers, cast and directors can't live up to.

A series of it's own would spoil Captain Jack for his fans.
kat

cheers - fraiser Smile

i think a spin off if done well could be good, but a spin off done badly would be tragic
Berethor

i voted yes..... but who voted NO!!!!!!!
kat

twas i, le chat!

only kidding, i don't know
The Doctor

At the same time theres Friends- Joey, not always a good idea!

These spin of books are just Doctor Who books! Its not just about Jack. If you already knw this then sorry I must have misread!
The Doctor

I voted no. Shocking Shocked

I think a spin off would ruin doctor who, and captain jack, and i don't want neither of them getting hurt!
Zhord

Well... they're gonna end up hurting each other if we don't keep em apart, if you know what I mean? Razz Shocked
Deako

If done well a CJH spin-off would rock. Honest! Very Happy
Zhord

I agree with Deako, a Captain Jack spin-off would add an extra dimension to the new series.

Plus, it would bring in a whole new audience.
Deako

Zhord's the man! OBEY HIM! Oh, oh, and Jack, OBAY JACK!
The Doctor

Well its just my opinion, but i really don't belive it would attract a new audience. I think it would only atract dr. who fans, as why would u just watch a show about some guy you don't know about? Its not so bad if its a new show, but a spin of?

Plus then Captain Jack could not go back to Doctor Who Sad
kat

Shocked

i do have to agree with zhord
Zhord

But then again, why did so many people watch the new series of Doctor Who when they don't know anything about him?
The Doctor

Good point, but i just have a feeling the spin off would not be a succes.
Deako

It was a good point... And after the spin-off, Jack could easily go back to trhe Doctor.

After Series 2, RTD could write a spin-off about Jack's time on the GameStation!
The Doctor

Yeah that amy work, but they could nt continue it if he was to rejoin who. Maybe if there was a spin of, he could get his top of a bit more.
Deako

Find the posts by: captainjckrules. Then look at his avatar. It will keep you amused for hours! Laughing
The Doctor

Yes, i am rather fond of that picture! Thanks captainjackrules!
sciscens

I voted no too. Read my earlier post for my explanation. Spin-offs dissapoint.
Der Martin

Spinn offs and sucess

Someone asked earlier in this forum why did so many people watch this series if they didnt know who doctor who was?

Easy question. Generally its because they didnt know who Doctor who was!
Even the most die hard of fans were left wondering what the new doctor was going to be like
I shall ignore (for the sake of this post) that the content of the series was absolutely gripping stuff and tremendously well written. .

So why should it be a success? Why should people wonder who Dr. who was/is?

RTD did the most astounding marketing foreplay that British television has ever seen. Apart from the fact that Doctor who fandom has never been exterminated and has made a great campaign to bring the show back from the dead, RTD made sure that months before, people where looking up the series on the internet (the place where most fans have been hiding, and in their wait have seen fit to have offspring, round about now somewhere between 5 and 25 years old (also now internet junkees).

Quick look at RTDs marketing statagey, which has incidentally got us hooked on his product (yesssssss!).

1) Press leaks to the sun, errr the daleks are dead! The Terry nation estate did have some real issues with the daleks copyright but still great publicity for a show which, in the end is bigger than the Daleks.
2) Casting two well know and popular personalities in Britain CE + BP eye candy for dads and mums.
3) Little teaser clips on tv and internet remember ... Its almost time .... But not yet?
4) Breakfast time, daytime and night time television interview snippets which generally said nothing but whet the appetite none the less.
5) Did I mention a huge web page with interactive games?
6) He kept the press guessing at just about everything to do with the series, right down to the master stroke of fooling them all releasing three different episodes none of which were to go out on that fateful regeneration saturday.
7) Snippet previews eveywhere teasing you senseless, for the last episode 5 diffeerent 10 second trailers-.........Brilliant.

This is how you make a series into a success. A spin off to work would have to be hyped as being bigger and better that the DW series, I reckon that DW is just to hard an act to follow.
Deako

Maybe so, but if he could make loads of publcity somehow......
The Doctor

Very topical debate now eegh?
Deako

For once, I suppose it is! Very Happy Let's keep it this way, eh?
The Doctor

yes, lol
The Doctor

I guess that it may work, if it was only say a one off special, but i don't think a whole season would work somehow.
Zhord

All you have to do is look at Buffy and Angel... that was a success.

Keep Jack in for a couple of series so the viewers can relate to him and when he becomes even more popular, then decide to make his own spin-off.

Your right - not many spin-offs work but has any spin-offs included a Time Agent searching for his last 2 years of his life?

Another success spin-off is Stargate SG-1 and then Stargate Atlanits.

I'm saying to do a Jack spin-off right away, I'm saying keep him onboard the TARDIS for a couple more series and when the time is right release a series of Jack.

Plus, we have one of the best writers ever in RTD to make Jack a success.
Sutekh The Destroyer

you guys wouldn't believe how successful stargate sg-1 is, and it looks like atlantis is really taking off here to.

i think jack is a perfect character for a spin off he is obviously attractive, he's american (major positive), and he's funny.
i say being american is a major psitive only in the sci fi series (spin off) context.

can't wait to see the movie!
Deako

I can see it now:

Doctor Who: ALL HAIL JACK!!! The Movie.

Laughing
The Doctor

No, it would be-

CAPTAIN JACK THE MOVIE- GUEST STARRING THE DOCTOR!
Sutekh The Destroyer

no dr, just jack!

and a variety of consealed weapons.......
The Doctor

I think Sutekh, that maybe you are becoming more crazy than deako, with all the monkeys and magazines under your bed Very Happy
