The face of BoeThe face of Boe's a great mystery. So let's put together what we know about him and which ideas there are.
- The face of Boe is believed to be millions of years old, but maybe, he's only a time-traveler like the doctor.
- He can see into the future. He knows he and the doctor will meet again and that it will be the last time.
- The face of Boe gathered the viewers' attention by subtlely appearing in several episodes after the End of the World.
And thoughts not so direct:
- There are rumours that the bad wolf mystery isn't completely solved yet. Bad Wolf is still a weird name for a company. Has Boe got something to do with it?
- The Doctor needs a machine to travel in time, but maybe the face of Boe doesn't. He can see the future. Something to do with the time vortex...

I'm really liking this story-line, and it's hardly begun. 
In the future, though: What would be wrong with a bit 'o Boe and some Capn Jack!

Ok, this is a weird thought, but maybe, The Face of Bo is a Time Lord.
The Doctor has said that he can change into different species so The Face could have simply changed from human appearence to Bo appearnce. That would xplain seeing into the future.

If you go back and watch the episode, the nurse says that all of Boekind is extinct except for him. He is the last ofBoekind.

Yeah, but who says thats the truth? Boekind could have been long gone and then The Face could have regenerated into them. He could be covering something up by pretending to be a Bo and not a Time lord.

the doctor can sense the presence of other time lords though, so unless Boe is using some sort of cloaking device also incorperated into his tank, i'm thinking him being a timelord is inconceivable
(sorry, got the book of the princess bride for a belated birthday present, they've just climbed the cliffs of insanity)

We are told that The Face of Boe was particularly fertile during the time of the fourth human empire and had six children (Boemina) who each only lived for forty years. We are also told that this (40 years) is the average lifespan of the species and that it is unknown why the Face of Boe has lived so long — it is apparently not a result of his life support tank. This has caused him to be dubbed on some worlds as "the creature that God forgot".
According to the show's producer (Russell T. Davies) when this time comes the Face will pass on the four words that make up the secret to the Doctor, and that it will be "fantastic".

Hmmmm. Errr,... I wouldn't get too excited about this thing that the doctor would know if other Timelords existed. Up until know he has failed to recognise other Timelords on a number of occasions. Sometimes he has even been face to face with them and not known who they were. At the very least he has been late at figuring out who they were.
Just a couple of Examples: He didn't inmediately recognise Kin Po, his old Teacher and Mentor in Planet of the Spiders.
He didn't recognise Omega in either The three Doctors or Arc of infinity, Omega had to introduce himself!!
The Doctor has failed to inmediately recognise the Master on several occasions, The King's Daemons, Maybe the Enemy Within, The keeper of Trakken.
He has even sensed the presence of the interference of Timelords before when they were simply not involved at all. i.e. He was mistaken and severely overestimated his own telepathic prowess. I believe it was Pyramids of Mars where he thought that the Timelords had been messing around with his Tardis but in fact they hadn't been.
It can be said that when other Timelords are about he senses something, but his perceptions never really appear to be so accurate as to arouse more than a suspicion which may or may not be correct.

Anyway back to the face of Boe. Er. I have just watched New earth BTW. (Hoorah! )
Q. Didn't Boe's Tank just dissapear in a way that a Tardis might do? Without the whooshing noise of course. Admittedly it could be a transmat device or anything else for that matter, but I consider it to be possible to write Boe in as a Timelord. Although I don't think that is RTD's style. He could perhaps be a Guardian of time, who has just been testing the Doctor for the position of Guardian, Final test - errrr Watch your people die and not interfere or indeed have to cause their death and still go on upholding the greater good.
In any case the legend of Boe and the "we shall meet again for the third and last time" speech is an incredible move by RTD, once again pure genius on his part. Let's look at the strategical aspect....
...On the very first episode of the new series he succeds in gaining a hold over the audience which will last well into the second series and mazbe beyond. The audience has been secured. "Now that's enigmatic....Testbook enigmatic..........." I laughed my socks off. RTD is Just playing with us all.
The rest of the story although rather good is just weak in comparison. Many elements have (sadly to some extent) just been repeated. But then again if you have a good formula then why fix it?? Easily recogniseable were
a) the Platform one.." Guests are not allowed ...at any time" in the Hospital/P1 entrance hall (Ok from the same Era can get away with it),
b) Zombies reminiscent of unquiet dead which very reminiscent of
c) "Are you my Mummy?" Touch me and you turn into me which are of course in one of the docs finest moments
d) all cured at the end.
Strangely, although these things are repeated, they don't necessarily spoil the story, I Just hope that the series isn't in concept a Carbon copy of the last one, which was of course all very good, however I can already see the formula being repeated. i.e. The series began with a Story set in the year five Billion (Rose does't count, just an appetite whetter rather like the Xmas invasion) follwed by a story set in the Victorian age, in the middle of the series an old arch enemy is introduced in an intense one part story only to be reintroduced at the end of the series in a two part epic.
Admittedly the Formula is a good one but I will feel a little cheated if there's not some new shocking twists, which I think the face of Boe definately is.

I was thinking a little about FOB today and wandering if there was a simply logical explanation for everything and that in fact you are all correct. (Doubt it but still possible).
Let´s make a few premises -
- The Time war did take place
- All Timelords were wiped out except one
If we were to hold the suppostion that FOB is a Timelord as being correct we could stick it in as:
- The face of Boe is a timelord
The first two premises are generally held as being correct if the third one is also to be correct then we can undoubtedly draw only one serious conclusion:-
The face of Boe is the Doctor himself!
Certainly textbook enigmatic!

Yeah I did mention that in a post, and that would certainly be a twist in the tail. Maybe when the doctors regenerations run out he stays alive (like the master in The Deadly Asasain) and lands in a time period. Unable to gallop around the universe he leads a quiet life, living for billions of years...

Oh Sorry Doctor if you mentioned it b4. I obviously havn't been paying attention. My line of thinking was that FOB be a distorted previous incarnation but a future incarnation is also in order. Actually I don't think that FOB is the DOC at all but it is a nice theory to play around with. Has anyone anything to comment on his role in The end of the world that might contribute to the overall perspective.?As I remember he didn't seem to do much at all in that episode. People seemed to be much more in awe of him when a couple of eps later he was pregnant and on Bad wolf TV.

upon Der Martin's evidence (what a genius!) i retract my previous statement that boe being a timelord could not be.
i based my initial thoughts on CE's comment "they've all gone" or words to that effect
I am certainately excited to see how everything pans out, i'm already thinking "ooo, can't wait til the 3rd series!!"
